Deep Scaling and Root Planning

Deep scaling and root planning is a form of deep dental cleaning that treats periodontal disease. We first remove plaque and tartar that build up below the gum line with deep scaling. If not treated, plaque and tartar accumulation can lead to bacterial infections, inflammation, and gum disease like gingivitis and periodontitis.

After cleaning, we smooth out the tooth's root surfaces with root planning. This makes it harder for plaque and tartar to accumulate. We can typically perform a deep scaling and root planning procedure in one visit.

Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is used to reduce excess gum tissue. If your teeth appear "short", it may be that there is just too much gum tissue covering your teeth. We remove the extra gum and bone tissue to expose more of your teeth and provide you with a more natural and broader smile. Sometimes this procedure is a necessary step in a restorative procedure such as a crown or bridge. Crown lengthening can also be applied to just one tooth or an entire gum line.
